When we first saw Lucca, it brought tears to our eyes. She was lying lifeless on her side, too weak to move. She was malnourished, dehydrated and 20 lbs underweight, so her chances of survival were slim.
However, after 3 months undergoing extensive care in the veterinarian hospital, Lucca came home. It was a miracle.
The ringworm, mange and impetigo left no visible scars. She was beautiful. Lucca is still a little smaller than her cage mates, Saber and Nadia, but has very much recovered from her scary start in life.
Her nickname is “Fish” because she’s always in the water. When she was smaller, she would get in her water barrel, turn around, and all you could see was her head coming through the opening. Now that Lucca is too big for her water barrel, she spends most of her time in her tub or in the pool.
When “Eric’s” pool opened in January 2007, Lucca was the first brave cat to take the plunge in the frigid water. And she did so by climbing on top of the rock waterfalls and jumping (or maybe it was slipping) into the deep center. Once she regained her composure, she swatted at any of her friends who tried to join her. Fortunately, she now happily shares the pool with all of her friends.
